Courses

In the UNIVERSEH programme at the Heinrich-Heine-University students may take the following courses:

Language Cafés

The Language Café offers an opportunity to practice languages with native speakers in a relaxed setting, no matter if you are a beginner or an advanced learner. The UNIVERSEH project makes it easy to get to know new people, languages, and cultures!

Each of the partner universities will host the café in turn according to the following schedule and topics:

Date Location Topic
14. October 2021 Germany - HHU Düsseldorf Introductions / Getting to Know New People/Places (Basic Communication Phrases/Terms)
04. November 2021 Sweden - TU Lulea Northern Lights (Basic Phrases and Vocabulary regarding Weather, Time, Travel...)
09. December 2021 Poland - AGH Krakow Natural Attractions / Wildlife (Vocabulary Related to Hobbies, Nature)
7. April 2022 France / Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées Sport and activities
19. May 2022 Luxembourg / Université du Luxembourg Capital of Culture

Each session will be 1.5 - 3 hours in length and will be held according to a twofold structure:

  1. The cafés will start with some welcoming words in four languages (French, Swedish, Polish, German) followed by a presentation on a location specific topic in English and some ice-breaking games.
  2. After that the students will be put into small groups or pairs and can practice their target languages with each other. Whether it is about the presentation, or any other topic is not important. The grouping or pairing will be based on the registration process. Students will practice basic (A1) vocabulary & phrases from each other in Polish, German, French, and Swedish. Depending on demand, more advanced students will also have the opportunity to interact with each other.

All UNIVERSEH-students from our inter-university alliance who are interested in learning and practicing new languages are welcome to join. The registration takes place through our registration forms. Students enrolled at the HHU Düsseldorf can register via the online course catalogue HIS-LSF.

The Language Cafes will be conducted via an online platform. Since we cannot offer you a coffee you will have to prepare your own beverage of choice. Maybe also grab a snack.
