Foreign Language Module

Languages are the gateway to the world. They convey intercultural competence and are more necessary than ever for a successful career in a modern, internationalised professional world.

We offer students various courses in foreign languages and sign language. Our programme is open to all regularly enrolled HHU students, international students and visiting academics. Our language courses follow the standards of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and can be counted as credit-bearing coursework.

Structure and scope of the module

Students on Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes can combine the module from one to nine language courses of 2 SWS each and collect 2 to 18 credit points if they successfully complete the module. One beginners' course can be taken each semester. Only one course can be taken in each language per semester. The competence levels of the courses within a language naturally build on each other.

Zertifizierung und Kreditierung des Moduls

You can use the certificate you receive after successfully completing the module as proof of language proficiency for job applications, among other things. Please contact the Language Centre team at the Studierendenakademie in person or by e-mail.

Grading for English, French and Spanish

In order to ensure that the language level of participants in the language courses who have not yet completed a language course with us is as standardised as possible, placement tests based on the C-Test principle are carried out before the start of the advanced English, French and Spanish courses. Alternatively, internationally recognised language certificates that are no more than two years old can be presented. You can register for our placement tests and language courses via the online course catalogue HIS-LSF.

Here you will find the placement tables to help you find the right course for your language level:
