Recruitment-Concept

Attracting young professionals

The Careers Service of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf helps enterprises to fill internship places or career entry positions with graduates from Heinrich Heine University and enables them to enter into contact with students and graduates and present themselves as potential employers.

Costs

The Careers Service offer is – unless explicitly stated otherwise – categorically free of charge for enterprises. The only costs which might be incurred are for promotional material and catering.

Event promotion

We promote all company events promptly and professionally by:

•    Publishing information on the Careers Service’s websites together with the possibility to register
•    Including the event in the University’s online calendar
•    Including the event in the various social media presences of the University (Twitter, Facebook etc.), email circulars and personal contact to the relevant departments, study advisors and student committees
•    Distributing event programmes on the campus

Event planning

The Careers Service requires a certain lead time to organize an event. Events in the winter semester (lecture period from mid October to the beginning of February) should be arranged with the Careers Service by the 15th of June and events in the summer semester (lecture period from mid April to the end of July) by the 15th of December. The Careers Service notifies the enterprise of the number of registered participants two weeks before the event.

On Campus

Types of event

1. Company presentations in the framework of our “Path to Employment” programme

Company presentations on the University’s campus offer enterprises the possibility to approach young and qualified academic professionals actively and ahead of the competition. Enterprises can present their career entry and internship opportunities, trainee programmes and possibilities for dissertation work to graduates and introduce themselves as attractive potential employers.

2. Practical lectures in the framework of our “Path to Employment” programme

Companies know from everyday practice which parts of their core business will grow in future. Via the Careers Service, they have the possibility to sensitize students from early on towards such issues and show them how the knowledge they have acquired can be transferred into practice. Through practical lectures, enterprises can attract students’ attention and stimulate interesting and practice-oriented discussions.

Times for presentations and practical lectures

These generally take place on Thursdays from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.

Duration
Flexible, but generally 90 minutes including opportunity for questions and discussion.

Number of participants

Venue
Suitable lecture theatre or seminar room on the campus. If requested, technical equipment or presentation materials can be provided and catering arranged.

3. Workshops

In half-day or full-day workshops, enterprises can guide students and graduates in choosing a profession, finding employment and how to apply. They attract attention and make a name for themselves as competent partners when it comes to career issues. In addition, they get to know the participants in different situations during the workshops and can find suitable future employees for themselves.

The topic for Workshop 1 can be chosen freely. For Workshops 2 to 4 set topics are suggested.

Workshop 1    Training content can be capabilities, know-how and skills which new employees should ideally master when starting work, e.g. negotiation techniques and intercultural behaviour rules

Workshop 2    “Don’t be afraid of Assessment Centres!” Training: Self-presentation, group exercises, simulation games

Workshop 3     “Choosing a Profession”: For students and graduates of all study programmes

Workshop 4    “Application Training: From Compiling a CV to Attending the Interview”

In addition, the Careers Service establishes links to those faculties or specific departments which match your enquiry and puts you in touch with contact persons at the University with specific expertise in the relevant subject.

3. On Campus Interview Day

Should an enterprise wish to interview students or graduates at Heinrich Heine University for particularly attractive internships or career entry positions in their companies, the Careers Service can help.
